Alice Louise Molo (née Babinski) passed from this world to eternal life on December 13, 2023. Alice was comforted in her final weeks by the constant presence of family and friends, and for that she was most grateful.
Born on March 9, 1934, Alice grew up amongst many cousins, aunts, and uncles in West Pullman on Chicago’s South Side. She was the second of four daughters of Leona and Francis Babinski. Her sisters Barbara, Betty, and Frances preceded her in death, as did her parents.
A proud graduate of Assumption B.V.M. grammar school and St. Louis Academy, Alice received five college scholarship offers based on her stellar academic performance. She turned them down and went to work to help put her younger sisters through nursing school, as family finances were tight given that her father died when she was aged four.
While working in the office at Chicago Malleable Castings Company, she met the love of her life, Steven Molo. They were married for 51 years until his death, living in Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood, then Palos Hills and Huntley, Illinois. Together they raised four children, Steven (Mary), Susan (Derek) van Amerongen, Juliane (Scott) Woepke, and Sharon (Bruce) Scott, all of whom survive her.
When her children reached an age at which she believed they could fend for themselves, she returned to the workforce in finance positions at Central Credit Union and Bernina of America. Those jobs allowed her to express what she called her “love of working with figures.”
In retirement she entered “full grandmother mode,” sewing, baking, and spending as much times as possible with her twelve grandchildren: Corrie, Alex, Amanda, Amy, Greg, Madeline, Tommy, Julia, Gracie, Anna, Allison, and Jack; and her five great-grandchildren: Matthew, Amelia, Logan, Haley, and Henry.
Alice spent her final years at the Clarendale Senior Living Community in Algonquin. There she was a friend to many, an enthusiastic bingo player, and an avid Wii bowler. A devout Catholic, Alice also served as a sacristan at St. Mary Church in Huntley.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 9am until the time of the 10:00am Mass being celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church-10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
