Michael Dean Costello, 67, of Huntley, died unexpectedly but peacefully in his home on December 20, 2023.
Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 23, 1956, to his parents Peter and Joann (nee Boytek) Costello. His family moved to Chicago when he was three and that is where he lived until he moved his wife and children to Hoffman Estates and finally, Huntley. He was introduced to Denise Prigge through family in 1979 and they were married on November 21, 1981.
A Life Well-Lived: Remembering Mike
Mike always placed a high value on spending quality time with his fiercely dedicated wife, children and grandchildren, especially his beloved "Dreeny Bird" (Adrina Alexandria) and "KinsKins" (Kinsley Ann). Mike and his wife Denise shared a loving and devoted partnership for 42 years, having met when Denise was just 18 and Mike was 23. While living in an apartment in Chicago completing his bachelor's degree at Devry University in only 3 years he also juggled responsibilities as a pizza delivery driver and provider to his young son and wife. He then embarked on a long and lucrative career in the electronics industry. In fact, for 15 years, he and his son Mike would drive to work together at Nedco Electronics in Wheeling, enjoy lunch together, and then drive home together. After battling and beating health conditions from a life altering stroke, Mike prevailed and went on to open a hot dog stand with his son Mike where his daughter Melissa and the grandkids hold memories as well. With a constant desire for more, Mike worked tirelessly to provide his family with larger homes in safer neighborhoods, only to find a little town called “Lake in the Hills” where he moved his family, which led to several loving family members following from Chicago to McHenry County.
Mike relished a good meal (especially a great buffet!) while engaging in lively conversation and laughter surrounded by loved ones. He had a knack for asking questions and was genuinely interested in hearing others' perspectives. An avid animal lover, his dogs especially held a special place in his heart. Camping trips and long bike rides with friends and family, and snorkeling in the ocean were some of his favorite pastimes. Mike was a hardworking and determined individual, continually pursuing new entrepreneurial endeavors, even if it meant driving Denise up the wall. He lived by the principles of “there’s always a way” or “we’ll figure it out” and possessed an unwavering drive to succeed. Above all, he adored traveling, with cruises being a particular favorite. His travel adventures are fondly etched in the memories of those who shared them with him.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Denise Costello, his adoring children, Michael (Marilena Campobasso) Costello, and Melissa (Scott Buetow) Costello, his doting grandchildren, Adrina, Kinsley, Skylar, Parker, Brock, and Dawson, his sister-in-law, JoJo Costello, his nephews and niece, Peter (Sylvia) Costello, Anthony Costello, and Grace Costello, Denise’s father, Fritz Prigge, Denise’s brothers Steve Prigge (Stacee) and family, Fred Prigge, Robert Prigge (Kristen) and family, Denise’s extended family, Auntie Angie, Tina and family, Laura (Axel) and family, and many other cherished family members, along with his beloved dogs, Rocky and Kozi.
Mike is also survived by his dear friends- Paul, Phil, Mike, Tony, Larry and many others whose lives he touched throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, his brother Tony Costello, his father and Denise’s mother, Adele Prigge.
