Alan Schrader

Obituary

Alan H. Schrader, 82 of Sun City Huntley, passed away on February 20, 2024.
Alan was born in Berlin, Wisconsin on July 3, 1941, to parents Harry and Doris (nee Kinrade) Schrader.
He was raised in Ripon, Wisconsin where he met his wife Judith (nee Gruber) Schrader.
They were married on May 7, 1966, after Alan returned from serving the Army in Vietnam. Together, they enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage. Al and Judy raised their family in Palatine, Illinois. During that time, Alan was a mechanical engineer.
In retirement, Al and Judy moved to Sun City Huntley and took advantage of many opportunities that the lifestyle had to offer. He played on a softball team, multiple bowling leagues, Bocce, Cue Club, Men’s Breakfasts, and Investment Club. Mostly, Al’s leisure time surrounded his love for Lionel Trains and the Model Train Club at Sun City. He was a lifelong member of both the National TCA (Train Collectors Association) and LCCA (Lionel Collectors Club of America). He was always helping others with their collections or impressing people with his collection.
Another passion of Alan and Judy was travel. Together they journeyed through 49 states, Canada, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. They traveled throughout Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

He is survived by his wife Judith, his children Robert (Stephanie) Schrader, Janelle (David) Nelson, and his five grandchildren, Olivia Schrader, Haedyn Schrader, Madison Schrader, Patrick Nelson, and Cora Nelson.

Services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alan’s name to the Lionel Collectors Club of America https://www.lionelcollectors.org/

Alan always had time to stop and talk when he seen you. He was a spot spoken man and could carry on a conversation. Both he and Judy were great to travel with on the Siene River and in the Mediterranean. They always made you comfortable and Alan will be missed.
