Alicia A. Gonzales

Obituary

Alicia A. Gonzales, 79, of Huntley, formerly of Schaumburg, passed away on February 21, 2024, in Huntley.

Alicia, born in the Philippines on March 22, 1944, to Prudencio and Amada (nee Vicente) Araullo, earned her bachelor’s in accounting, then met, and fell in love with Armando Gonzales. They married on April 25, 1970, and traveled to the United States in 1972 to build their life together. The couple spent 52 years raising their family, traveling, and enjoying time with family and friends, until his passing on May 12, 2022.

Alicia was a caring woman who found joy in spending time with her family and friends. She loved to garden, planting many beautiful flowers and vegetables, but she was best known for cooking delicious Filipino dishes. Alicia took pride in her Filipino heritage and sharing it through her food – it was one of the many ways she showed her love. Known as someone who could do just about anything (including replacing shingles on her roof), Alicia was often found knitting or crocheting and even sewing her daughters’ dresses when they were young. Alicia was loved by all who knew her and will be missed dearly.

Alicia is survived by her children, Arlene (Jonathan) Dela Cruz, Belinda Gonzales, and Alan (Carlie) Gonzales, her grandchildren, Jake, Joseph, and Ashton, and her sister, Angelita Abordo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Armando Gonzales, and her brother, Arturo Araullo.
