Vincent D. Bednar, 94, of Sun City, Huntley, formerly of Hoffman Estates for 41 years; died peacefully, March 15, 2024 with his family by his side.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 3-7pm with a time of sharing at 6pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2pm with visitation at 1:30pm at the First Congregational Church in Huntley, Illinois. Burial will be in Washington Memorial Cemetery in Elgin. Vincent was born July 25, 1929 the son of Vincent and Frances Bednarowicz. He grew up in Chicago, treasured by deaf parents which he was super proud of and left at the age of seventeen with a couple high school buddies joining the United States Army. He served as a secret radio transmitter repairman as Corporal at Signal Corps Area, Fort Shafter, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii during WWII. On December 3, 1955 he married Marjorie Gunderson. He was a member of the Local Union 67 Tile Setters Union for 50 years. After his retirement he worked at Schaumburg High School as the boys locker room supervisor along with many after school sporting events. The students loved him! He and his wife raised their family in Hoffman Estates where he was active at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and various local civic activities; Veterans Memorial Commission, Historical Sites Commission, Environmental Commission. He was awarded for his spirit of volunteerism not only by the Village of Hoffman Estates but also by the Sheriff’s Office Of Cook County, IL. Vince was still an active member of The American Legion post 0673 and First Congregational Church of Huntley.
Vincent is survived by his children, Paul (Jean) Bednar, Cheryl (Scott) Rudd, Deborah (Thomas)Powszok and Susan (Robert) Chambers. By his grandchildren, Leanne (Stephen) Leite, Ryan (Lisa) Powszok, Brittany (Devin) Burnett, Nicole (Michael) Zarth, Bradley (Robin) Powszok, Wylie (Erin) Bednar, Tanner Bednar, and Harley Chambers. By his great grandchildren, Addison, Kayla, Aubrey, Keira, Noelle, Violet, Rozalynn, Riley, Cooper, Cameron and by his favorite dog, Maggie Oats.
He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Marjorie, and by his brother, James.

Cousin Vince was a very good person. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word.
I will always remember and love my cousin who brought fun into my life and helped many that he loved, Love to you Vince, and may you rest in peace with Jesus love Lorraine
Vinnie made our days at dyalsis bearable. Always asking how we are, have a good day etc, A wonderful man so glad to have known him, so sorry for your loss

We may not of met, but I cared for Vincent (Vinnie) a couple years ago. I have fond memories of driving with him windows down playing his favorite music; his grandsons band Hollyy. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time.
