Gerald J. Mecozzi, "Jerry" 94, of Huntley, died peacefully, April 2, 2024.
Jerry was born August 22, 1929 in Peru, Illinois the son of Nazareno and Margarena Mecozzi. He proudly served in the United States Army. On September 8, 1956 he married Gerene A. Chapman. The couple lived for many years in Mount Prospect before relocating to Huntley. Jerry was a tool and die maker by trade beginning his career at Westclox in Peru, Illinois and later worked at Burke Industries in Arlington Heights as the Tool Division Manager. Jerry was an avid fisherman throughout his life. In his younger years he was part of a team that built and raced midget cars at many tracks around the Midwest. He was active in several groups at Sun City, Huntley including The Woodchucks woodworking group and the fishing club. Though he lived a long life he remained young at heart and mind. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Marsha (Mike) Schultz, Tom (Leslie) Mecozzi, and Gregory Mecozzi and by his grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Doebler, Matthew Schultz, Charlie, and Henry Mecozzi.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Gerene and by his siblings Lucy, Mary, Yolanda, Walter, and Albert.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 3-6pm with military services at 6pm DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road-Huntley.
