Dorothy Hanson-Zidel, 92, of Algonquin, died peacefully on April 22, 2024, in her home.
Dorothy was born in Chicago on June 20, 1931, to parents Michael and Helen (nee Bruck) Gruber. Dorothy was actively involved in the Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, was in the bell choir, sponsoring a child in another country. Her hobbies consisted of art, cooking, and golf. She got a hole in one on May 3, 2009. She had a passion for interior design and loved elegant things. She loved to travel, and she previously lived in Sun City in South Carolina before moving back to Illinois. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Holly Hanson, Karen (Bill) Hood, and Dawn (Glenn) Rabick, her stepchildren, Patricia (Robert) Yamane, Cindy (Marco) Gonzales, and Bill Zidel, her grandchildren, Noah, Kendall, and step grandchildren Brandon, Eric and Alexandra Yamane, and Andrea Owens, Christopher and Justin Gonzalez, and her dog, Bella.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Lloyd Hanson, and her second husband Stanley Zidel.
Mass will be Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. with a visitation the hour prior, all at St. Mary Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Burial to follow Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.

We are so sorry for your loss. We knew Dorothy and Stanley when we all lived in Sun City and have many happy memories of the times we were able to spend in that very enjoyable Sun City group before we moved back to Illinois.
