Obituary

Dorothy Pauline Wilkening, 100, died peacefully, May 14, 2024.
Dorothy was born August 29, 1923 in Bloomingdale, IL. the daughter of Albert and Martha Oldenburg. One of nine children, she grew up on a farm and outlived all her siblings. In 1941 she married Melvin Wilkening, the couple were married for 77 years. Melvin passed away in 2018. Dorothy had a competitive spirit and enjoyed golfing and bowling, she also enjoyed hosting card parties and would hold a garage sale every year. She and Melvin were both lifetime members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin and both were very active in the Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Carol (James) Stonecipher, David (Judith) Wilkening, and Cathy Newby, by her four grandchildren, Chad (Angie), Aimee (Gary), James (Cortney) and Josh, by her great grandchildren, Katelyn, Brett, Emma, Mason, Nora, Noele and James "Quaid" and Nelson and by her great great grandchild, Hayden. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by all her siblings, her husband, her son, Richard and her son-in-law, James Newby.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 5-8pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11am at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin.
