Obituary

Teresa "Terri" Dorota Sowa, 47, of Huntley, died peacefully in her home on May 23, 2024, with her family by her side.
Terri was born in Szczucin, Poland on October 7, 1976, to parents Franciszek and Stanistawa (nee Dubiel) Gadek. She met John Sowa while attending Triton College in River Grove. The couple were married on April 26, 2003, and settled in McKinney, Texas before moving to Huntley in 2017. She was dedicated to her family and adored spending time with her two boys, Adam and Charlie. Terri was proud of her Polish heritage and taught her sons the importance of knowing where they came from. She was the treasury secretary for the Nicolaus Copernicus School of Polish Language, designed many costumes for her sons who participated in Polonia Polish Folk Song & Dance Ensemble, and was an excellent cook. She was kind, a loving wife and mother, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Terri is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, John Sowa, her sons, Adam Sowa and Charlie Sowa, her mother, Stanistawa Gadek, her siblings, Marian Gadek, and Bogumila (Chris) Kochanek, her goddaughter, Mia and godson, Mitchell, 11 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Franciszek Gader.

Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4 p.m. to time of prayers 7:30 p.m. all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Mass will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10 a.m. with a visitation the hour prior, all at St. Mary Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Burial to follow Mass at Huntley Cemetery.

The Prayer Service on Friday and the Mass on Saturday will both be streamed live on the DeFiore Facebook page. www.facebook.com/defiorefuneral
