I deeply mourn the loss of our loving Uncle Romy, but I also celebrate his life for the many wonderful memories he left us. He was a silent but a very comforting presence in our lives. He was a generous patriarch to his kin. I will never forget that when I went to the United States to study for my graduate degree, without me asking, he placed in my pocket a generous amount that really helped his cash-strapped nephew. I will forever be grateful for his generosity, love, and care. I extend my love, condolences and prayers to Auntie Pi, Florence, Patrick, Johnny, Noah, and Molly.

In his own quiet way, Uncle Romy modeled for us how we should treat family, friends and community. He inspired us to embrace humility, dignity and integrity as strengths of character. Around this month in 2023, Uncle Romy surprised me by attending the University of the Philippines alumni homecoming where I received an outstanding alumni award. It was very fitting for him to be there because more than 20 years ago, he gave me financial support to attend Harvard Law School in the US, which set the trajectory of my future career. He’d exhibited the same kindness to almost every member of his extended family. It was very typical of him - so humble, unfailingly kind, boundlessly generous and ever loving. To Auntie Pi, Quennie and family - may it comfort you that Uncle Romy lived a good and purposeful life and he was so well-loved.

My deepest condolences to family of the late Manong Romy most especially to you Florence and Manang Pi. I grew up in church in Ramon with Manong Romy as my older brother and mentor so as with his other siblings. Coming to Chicago, he continued to treat me the same, like a very close member of his family. Manong, the legacy you left behind will stay forever. Rest in peace now and joyfully enjoy your forever life with Jesus.

Romeo's siblings 2024-07-19 19:59:24

We celebrate the life of a truly remarkable person; Atty. Romeo Manuel Ruiz, our beloved eldest sibling, Manong Romy as we commonly called him - being the eldest and to show respect to him in our Filipino culture. As we mourn our loss, we also honor the profound impact Manong Romy had on our lives and the legacy of love and generosity they left behind. From a young age, Manong Romy embodied the essence of selflessness. When our family faced difficult times, it was Manong Romy who stepped up, offering not just a roof over our heads, but also a sanctuary of love and support. Their home became our home, a place we felt safe, cherished, and united. Manong Romy was more than just a sibling; together with his family; his wife, Manang PI, their children Ray (who has gone ahead to the Lord) and Florence, were a guiding light, a source of strength and wisdom. They took on responsibilities far beyond their years, ensuring that we were all taken care of, often putting our needs before their own. It is because of their unwavering support that we were able to find our footing and build our own paths. Their generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was offering a comforting word during hard times or celebrating our successes as if they were their own, Manong Romy was always there for us. They taught us the true meaning of family- being there for one another, lifting each other up, sharing in both joy and sorrow. For that, Manong, we thank you. Manong Romy's kindness extended beyond our family. They touched the lives of many with their warm heart and open arms. Friends and neighbors alike could always count on Manong Romy for support and encouragement. Their legacy is one of compassion, strength, and an enduring love that will live on in all of us. As we say goodbyes, we carry with us the lessons Manong Romy taught us. We honor the memory by embodying the same spirit of generosity and love that they showed us every day. Though Manong Romy may no longer be with us in person, his spirit lives on in the countless lives they touched. Thank you, Manong Romy, for everything you did for us. Thank you for your love, your sacrifices, and your unwavering support. We will miss you dearly. But we take comfort in knowing that you are now resting with the Lord for you lived the life of His teaching as it says in Mathew 25:33-40 and you will always be a part of us. Our life will go on but it'll never be the same. We are going to miss you so much. Our only consolation is you're now in a better place. Rest in peace our Dear Brother, Manong Romeo Manuel Ruiz. You will forever be in our hearts. For Manang PI and Florence Ruiz O'Connor, our beloved Niece and her family, thank you also for taking care of our beloved Brother and for sharing him with us in so many ways. Please take comfort that your father is now resting with the Lord, no more pain and suffering. We love you all and God bless!

Uncle has long been awaiting for me to come to the US due to the many delays of my application. So sad didn’t have a chance to see me in person already in the US. I will miss Uncle in making them native cakes everytime they come home to the Philippines. He has been a sweet Uncle in his own quiet demeanor.
