Erik J. Myers

Obituary

Erik was a very loved man. He was a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, a teammate and a friend to many.
He is survived by his loving parents John & Dawn Myers, his siblings Brett, Racheal & Mark, and his children Addisyn & Colton as well as many nieces and nephews
Erik had a competitive nature and an adventurous soul.
His competitive nature drove him to succeed in whatever he did. From winning sales fundraisers & writing competitions in grade school to excelling at whatever sport he chose in High school. He started talking about taking over his dads job as early as second grade. His drive won him medals in both Bodybuilding competitions & Jiu Jitsu tournaments. He was always driven to succeed from a young age. This carried over into his career. Erik attended Roosevelt University where he studied Accountancy, Law and Poly Sci. Out of college, Erik spent time working side-by-side with his father at the family business. His ability to talk to people and network was unmatched. In business he was a successful salesman. This career path afforded him the opportunity to attend many trade shows, & travel which he loved. Erik was never shy to take the opportunity to go out of state to close a deal and use the opportunity to see the sights.
Erik Cherished his role as a father to Addisyn and Colton. He planned countless adventures and truly loved showing his kids all the culture that Chicagoland had to offer. They went to all the museums, and even spent the night at The Adler Planetarium. Erik was never shy to take the kids to nice restaurants and they loved going out to the movies. Erik was a movie buff and would often interject movie quotes into conversations. Eriks ability to plan activities with the kids kept them so busy that they never had a need for Nana & Papa to babysit. Instead many summer days were spent together swimming at their pool, and having cookouts on the patio or, one of their favorites- taking the RV to Yogi Bear for a week every summer. They enjoyed Cubs games together. Erik was an avid Chicago sports fan. He was especially enthusiastic about the Cubs. He even attended all 7 of the Cubbies playoff games.
The last several months of Erik’s life were spent doing what he loved most. He was able to travel, spending time at an RV vacation with his parents in Mexico Beach, Florida. He spent time in Maine which was a cherished destination for him. In some of his last travels he explored parts of South America such as Columbia and Peru, where as he put it he took a run in the jungle, He visited Machu Picchu, and Cartagena. He trained relentlessly in Jujitsu and won a silver medal at his last competition in Las Vegas.

Erik had a generous spirit. He would regularly approach the homeless to ask if they needed anything. He once gave away the comforter off his own bed. In lieu of flowers please carry on his generosity by donating to the Austin B. Lucas/ Erik J. Myers MDNA scholarship, office@mdna.org or 703-836-9300

Erik, you were my first favorite cousin. You taught me how to be super competitive at bowling and how to throw temper tantrums when I wasn't winning. I will miss you. Give my mom and papa a big squeeze.

Erik was one of my best friends. We hung out, went to many Cubs games, watched movies, and celebrated quite a few birthdays and New Years together. He was a great person that cared for his family and friends dearly. I am deeply saddened by this news and your family is in my family’s prayers. RIP Erik
