Cheryl A. Friebus, 80, of Elgin, died peacefully September 12, 2024.
Cheryl was born May 7, 1944 in St. Paul, MN., the daughter of John and Ruth Hefner. On August 31, 1968 she married Gary C. Friebus. After college Cheryl went on to earn her master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. She was a speech pathologist and later became the Vice President of the Elgin Easter Seals. She organized and ran many local Easter Seal Telethons. Her and Gary were active at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Cheryl was always family orientated and was an amazing cook and baker. After she retired, she enjoyed being Grandma and loved being a babysitter to her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, of 56 years Gary Friebus, her children, Stacy (Robert) Tamburelli and Craig (Sarah) Friebus, by her grandchildren, Zach, Jacob, Chris, David, and Amanda. She was also survived by her great grandchildren Destiny, DeAngelo, Aiden, Adam, Calie, Grace, Avery and Shaun, as well as her siblings Dr. Alan (Jean) Hefner, Candice and Sandra.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 11am until 1pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Easter Seals and/or American Cancer Society.
