LaVerne F. Pappas, 100, of Woodstock, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. She was born January 25, 1924 in Rogers Park, Illinois to Leon J. and Mary L. (Wehman) Fiset.
LaVerne married Anthony J. Pappas, a WWII Veteran and worked as a Proofreader for GTE Telephone Directory. The couple spent many happy years in Des Plaines, Illinois until Anthony’s passing in 1990. Eventually, LaVerne moved to Woodstock, where she would live out the rest of her years close to her family.
LaVerne enjoyed watching 1970s game shows, boxing, and drinking screwdrivers. She was outspoken with a great sense of humor. Above all else, she loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. To those she loved most, LaVerne will be remembered for her strength, independence, and razor sharp wit.
LaVerne is survived by her children, Tom Pappas, Jim (Mary Ellen) Pappas, and Nancy (Pat) Pappas; her grandchildren, Mike DeFrancisco, Danielle (Chris) Allmann, Lauren (Nick) Del Grande, and James Pappas; and one great-grandson on the way.
In addition to her husband and parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Fiset, and her sister, Mary (Fiset) McNeese.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 11, 2024 from 9 am to 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntley, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

I loved Laverne..she was the best! She was giving, selfless, and so very kind. She was in my life for over 10 years, and I loved every minute..my deepest condolences to Tom, Jim, and my favorite, Nancy.
