Helen Matkovich, 85, of McHenry, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 16, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurence and Caroline (Kovalczik) Novak.
Helen was a longtime McHenry Resident. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church for many years. She was an old-fashioned lady, whose Catholic faith and family were both very important to her. Still, she knew how to have fun. Friends and family will remember her for her upbeat and comical approach to life. She enjoyed watching wildlife, gardening, watching soap operas and game shows, and playing card games with her loved ones. She was a devoted homemaker, and had a special connection with granddaughters Elizabeth, Suzanne, and Katie, and great-grandchildren Tony, Maddy, Aaron, and Gracie. She was a friend and mother to all. The light and love she spread in this world will be passed down for many generations to come.
Helen is survived by her children, Karen Marshall, Julie Licona, and Steve Matkovich; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
