Richard

Obituary

Richard "Rick" Coffman, 78, of Huntley, passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, November 16, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Rick was born July 11, 1946, in Chicago to Robert and Margaret Coffman. At a young age, his family moved to Cary, IL where he spent the majority of his life. His passion for 1960's muscle cars, jigsaw puzzles, and Hershey chocolate was second only to his "Groovy Kind of Love", Marcy (Bottcher), with whom he celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary on September 3rd of this year. Rick was a loving husband, father, Opa, brother and friend who will be missed by all that knew him.

Rick proudly served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning home to Cary from the war, he worked for the family business, Coffman Manufacturing, where he could fulfil his enjoyment of creative engineering and problem-solving challenges.

Rick especially enjoyed travelling with Marcy, boating with friends and family, and anything and everything involving time spent with his four grandsons. He had a mischievous sense of humor, always found a way to see the bright side of life, and managed challenging times with dignity and grace.

He is survived by his wife, Marcy Coffman, his children, Jennifer (Eric) Dorn and Brian (Sara) Coffman, grandsons Aiden, Cooper, Hayes and Thomas, his brother Randall (Teresa) Coffman, sister-in-law Margie, and many nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gary and Ronald.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 9 - 11am at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley, IL (10805 Main St.) with the funeral service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Special Olympics and Operation Wild Horse.

With love my dear uncle. Thank you for all your support throughout the years. An amazing role model and brother to my father Gary. You will be missed!

So sad to hear the news of his passing. Even though it has been many years since seeing the family in person, I will never forget the fond memories and the many hours spent in the Coffman pool and games played together. The shenanigans with Mr. Coffman and my dad always bring a chuckle, especially the "beaching" of the boat on one of our fishing trips! Thoughts and prayers to Marcy, Jennifer, Brian and family.
