Victor Oxby

Obituary

Victor Oxby, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 26, 1930 in Spurgeon, Indiana to Charles and Mary Alda (Ringham) Oxby.
He married Farreline Hunley on April 4, 1953 in Spurgeon. The couple celebrated 71 years together last Spring. She survives.
Victor and Farreline were longtime residents of Blue Mound, Illinois, but recently moved to the Huntley area to be close to their son, Mike. Victor was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church. He liked to stay busy. He enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife to see the US National Parks. He volunteered at the Blue Mound Food Pantry, was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Chapter #751, collected aluminum cans to recycle, and was a huge fan of Indiana basketball and the L.A. Dodgers. But his greatest passion in life was vegetable gardening. He was a skilled gardener, and utilized his talents at home as well as with the Blue Mound Community Garden. He loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Farreline, Victor is survived by his sons, Michael (Marilyn) Oxby, and Roger (Susan) Oxby; his four grandchildren, Kristin (Michael) Wenz, Kathryn (Graig) Kittelson, Katie Oxby, and Emily (Brad) Pope; and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Grace, Annie, Luella, and Cora.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Oxby; and his siblings, Mildred Chesser, Charles Oxby, Gene Oxby, an infant sister, Ruth Oxby, and his twin sister, Violet Mason.

Sorry to hear this. Vic and Farreline were sweet parents to Linda and sweeter to her friends who blew in and out. Fond memories of the Oxbys. I'm sure Linda is bear-hugging her Daddy. Peace to you all in the days ahead.

Vic was top shelf, BM royalty & a hero of ours!! I will always remember our great conversations up by the post office, at the community garden, at the food pantry & all around BM...❤️ The world & our community is simply a lesser place, without Vic in it....💔

Mike and Marilyn, So sorry to read that Vic has passed. He was great to us guys that hung around your house and made all those kind of memories last even today. It is a loss that will always hurt but know that we have nothing but good things to remember about your DAD. I liked the trips when he would take us to Evansville to see the small school championships and we always looked forward to that. I think he had just as much fun as we did. Our thoughts prayers go out to you, your family, Farreline and Roger.
