Joseph L. Legenza

Obituary

Joseph L. Legenza, journey in life ended January 4, 2025. Beloved and devoted husband, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Boruch) spouse and soulmate for 66 years, father of adored daughter, Kara Lynn (Lee) Vincolese, proud grandfather of Jaclyn (Jeff) Sanders, James (Jessi) Vincolese, Jason Vincolese and great grandson, Carter Sanders, many fond nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Wendy Lee Regan, and son, Mark Louis Legenza, his parents, Stanley and Mary (Migacz) Legenza and by his five siblings.
Joe was a World War II veteran, enlisted in the US Army in 1944, after boot camp was sent aboard the Naval Carrier Santa Cruz, destination unknown, sailing in the Pacific for 34 days awaiting assignment when the Atomic Bomb ended the war. He was sent to Guam, assigned to Medical Supplies to assist in setting up hospitals and emergency centers for incoming wounded military war casualties. Retired as Traffic Manager for Acco Industries in 1991 after 35 years of employment. In retirement traveled throughout the USA and Canada and spent many hours trolling the waters of Lake Michigan in his cabin cruiser, “The Joeli” enjoying his favorite sport, fishing.
He had a fabulous memory and loved detailing stories of events that occurred throughout his life. He was also a life-long Cub fan and was thrilled when they won the Pennant in 2016.
Joe was fortunate to take part in the Honor Flight to Washington DC, honoring veterans, in May, 2024, the only World War II veteran aboard. He will be missed by family and friends; he was always ready and willing to help wherever the need.
