James L. Klocek

Obituary

James Louis Klocek, 86, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025.

He was born on July 25, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Gertrude (Serafinowisz) Klocek. He attended St. Philips High School and entered into active service in the US Navy in 1956. After leaving active service, he continued to serve in the US Naval Reserves for 33 years. He married Carol Zornow in August of 1963 in Chicago, Illinois. James and Carol moved to Elk Grove from Melrose Park in 1967, where they would spend 50 years of their lives. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and Reserves Member, and worked as a Linesman for ComEd before being promoted to Foreman. His career spanned 34 years.

Both James and Carol were active in several military organizations, including NI-DESA, NERA, VFW, Chiefs Club, and American Legion. He also served as President of his local chapter’s Naval Enlisted Reserves Association. They were devout members of St. Julian Eymard Catholic Church while living in Elk Grove. James was also deeply involved in his daughters’ activities, especially the YMCA’s Indian Princess and Maiden Program, which fostered close father-daughter relationships and community participation. After his retirement, James enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Elk Grove VFW. Above all, he loved spending time with his immediate and extended family. He cherished time with his grandsons and enjoyed many opportunities to travel.

In addition to his wife, Carol, James is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Hanigan, and Debra (Anthony) Ayala; his brother, Bob (Sharon) Klocek; and his grandsons, Tom and John Hanigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
