Edward “Ed” Mason

Obituary

Edward “Ed” Peter Mason, of Gilberts, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

He was born on September 11, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois to Peter Christ and Louise Ellen (Knoth) Mason. He married Sandra “Sandy” Kehr on August 18, 1979 in Mount Prospect.

Ed worked as an moldmaker for Northern Illinois Mold until his retirement. After moving from Mount Prospect, Ed and Sandy enjoyed 37 more years together in Gilberts.

It was well known among his loved ones that Ed’s answer to nearly every question was “just a half.” He had a wide range of interests, including fishing, deer hunting, weightlifting, woodworking (building everything from cabinets to multiple home bars for himself and his friends), and gardening. Ed was always ready to volunteer for any handyman project. But his number one priority in life was always his family. He was well loved and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife, Sandy, Ed is survived by his mother, Louise Mason; his children, Brian Mason, Karen (Jeremy) Tindle, Jeff (Katie) Mason, Tami (Justin) Pickens; his grandchildren, Nicolette, Collin, Madison, Jaxon, Felicity, and Damien; his aunt, Diane Urias; his uncle, Roy Knoth; his cousins, Dave Mason and Gary Mason; and his four-legged grandson, Gizmo.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Peter Mason; his brother, Ken Mason; and an uncle, Fred Mason along with several other relatives including Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 4 pm to 7 pm, with a eulogy service at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Illinois Conservation Foundation or Salmon Unlimited Inc.
