Carl W. Benz, 86, of Algonquin, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025.
He was born in Hammond, Indiana on April 9, 1938, to Carl and Margaret (Nowkowski) Benz. He married Mary Ann Baginski on October 6, 1962. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2021.
Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in a medical unit. Later, he became a pharmacist and opened his own drug store, Hegewisch Pharmacy, in Chicago, Illinois.
Carl was a life-long Catholic. He went above and beyond to make sure he was always prepared for anything life threw at him. After retiring, he enjoyed relaxing with a good tv show. He loved spending time with his family more than anything.
Carl is survived by his sons, Paul (Mary) Benz, and Eric Benz; and his grandchildren, Emily and Tim Benz.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, and his parents.

What a privilege it was to know Carl. My thoughts are with your family during this time.
Carl was a wonderful friend. Prayers and love to his sons and their families. God bless Carl...lucky us to have known him and Maryann. So many fun times together. Love, Sandy
Although I only knew Carl for a short time (given he was living at the Oaks of Algonquin where my dad also is), he made a lasting impression. A very kind man with a good sense of humor and an expert driver of his motorized chair ; ) He always spoke so highly of his family and how he missed his wife. Now he is back with her forever. Thank you always for being so kind Carl. Rest in Peace.
