Nelda Veluz Orozco, 66, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
She was born on June 14, 1958 in Manila, Philippines to Augusto and Justina Ester Veluz Orozco. She moved to the US where she worked as a Neonatal nurse until the time of her passing. She was a devout Catholic and long-term member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntley, Illinois.
Nelda had an outgoing and open-hearted nature. She was incredibly caring and was always willing to help wherever she could. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega sorority, the Filipino American Community of Alsip (FACOA), and a loving Lola to her granddaughter, Noelle. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family members.
Nelda is survived by her daughter, Esther (Brice) Welton; five siblings, Imelda (the late Joe) Mercado, Virgilio (Mina) Orozco, Patricia Rehsee Orozco, Luzviminda Bing (the late Arnel) Munoz, and Don (Thelma) Orozco; her beloved granddaughter, Noelle Oakley Welton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Nelda was preceded in death by her son, Nikko Einstein Onate; her sister, Erlinda Dahvee Orozco; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Mercado and Arnel Munoz.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 11am until time of service at 12:30 pm at DeFiore Funeral Home – 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, Illinois 60142. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery – 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, Illinois 60803. If possible, please wear white per Nelda's request for her celebration of life.

Nelda Orozco was an incredible nursery nurse and wonderful mother and grandmother. She was so positive and smiling all the time. I will miss Nelda’s smile and beautiful personality. Rest in peace my friend. I’ll always remember you.
