David Heath, 80, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He was born in Peru, Illinois to Francis and Lygia Heath. David was a class of 1962 graduate of Saint Bede Academy. He was united in marriage with his devoted wife Cheryl at St. Valentine’s Church in Peru.
An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, gardening and taking long walks.
As a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, he loved the thrill of attending and watching their games with his family throughout his life.
Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than every moment he spent with his cherished granddaughters. They spent many hours together fishing, hiking, playing games, trying new recipes, and wintertime sledding was always followed up with his famous hot chocolate. He took delight in sharing his love of learning, life stories and pearls of wisdom with each of them.
A dedicated and hard-working provider for his family, he retired from CP Rail after 40 years of service.
After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends “Up North” at the family cabin in Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl, who pampered him with her cooking and baking skills throughout their 60 years of marriage. Surviving are their three loving children, a son, Tracy (Clare) Heath, two daughters, Kari (Jason) Polz and Jamie (Bryan) Cash, and his five beloved granddaughters, Emalyn, Ava, Sophia, Bella and Olivia.
He is also survived by his three sisters, Sister Mary Jeanine Heath, Jean (Bob) Weisheit, Cindy (Don) Shadensack and a brother Greg (Janine) Heath.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David who passed in infancy and two nieces.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Coral for her care giving, kindness, and support.
Honoring David’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
