Darryl Wade Phillips, 82, of Huntley, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Darryl was born on July 25, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Albert and LaVerne (Taylor) Phillips. He married Janice Lytle in Mt. Prospect, Illinois in 1964. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary last year.
Darryl had a passion for being a high school teacher and coach for School District 214. His career spanned over 35 years, most of it spent at Elk Grove High School. After retiring, Darryl and Jan moved to Huntley in 2003.
Darryl was a devout Christian and read the Bible every day. He was an avid sports enthusiast, and enjoyed fly fishing, trapshooting, bowling, boating, and spending time at his second home in Wisconsin. But his greatest joys in life were his children and his grandchildren. He was passionate about their participation in sports and activities. He was their number one fan. He was a devoted friend and family patriarch, and will be deeply missed by all those he loved.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Janice Phillips; his children, Todd (Janet Lindsey) Phillips, Corey (Steve) O’Neill, and Michael (Jacki) Phillips; his grandchildren, Olivia, Jacob, Tristan, Josh, Stella, Tessa, and Noah; extended family members, Tanesha and Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at DeFiore Funeral Home in Huntley, on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4pm-7pm, with a prayer service at 7pm. Inurnment will be held privately at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Autism Society of America.
