Barbara Grace Nelson, 70 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away on Saturday morning, October 19th at JourneyCare (hospice care center) in Barrington following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Barbara was born November 22, 1942 in Chicago, the daughter of Robert K. and Dorothy O. (Meyer) Morin. She was raised and educated in Chicago, where she was united in marriage to James P. Nelson on January 25, 1964. The couple had met in grammar school and started dating during high school. They made their home in Chicago and then Des Plaines, later for a short time in Indiana then Georgia. In 2005 they moved from Atlanta to Sun City Huntley. Barbara was very social, enjoying time spent with family and friends. She was a Master Gardener, loved tending her flowers and plants, reading, playing golf, volley ball and cards, especially Euchre.
Barbara is survived by her husband, James P. Nelson of Huntley, her son, Robert E. (Kathy) Nelson of Lake Zurich, her grandchildren, Jack & Julia, her sisters, Carol (William) Maier of Crest Hill, Illinois, Cynthia Morin of Chicago and her brother, Richard (Barbara) Morin of Des Plaines, also many extended family members.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22nd at the DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral & Cremation Service, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.

Barbara was a wonderful person. I so enjoyed her company at family picnics and gatherings. Prayers and thoughts are with you all.
