Obituary

Wanda I. Day, age 98, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, in Marengo Illinois.

She was born August 10, 1926, in Tuscola, Illinois, the daughter of Clyde and Effie (Redding) Colwell. She was raised in Tuscola, graduated from Tuscola High School as valedictorian and attended secretarial school in Champaign, Illinois.

She was employed by USI as a secretary. Being an active member of Eastern Star, Wanda achieved the rank of Worthy Matron.

It was at USI that she met a widower, Fred N Day whom she married on December 24, 1967. They lived in Illinois, Nebraska, Arizona and Wyoming before returning to Illinois. With a desire to further her education, she took classes at University of Arizona and University of Wyoming. In 1987 she graduated from University of Wyoming with a BS in history.

Over the years she did office work for the Nebraska Nursing Home Association in Lincoln, Nebraska and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Her many hobbies included ceramics, crafts, rock hunting with her husband, reading and traveling.

She is survived by Step-children: Joan (John) Wince and Barbara (Ronald) Colson of Huntley, Illinois; Carol (David) Osborn of Marengo, Illinois; and Richard (Deborah) Day of Discovery Bay, California; 10 step-grandchildren and 27 step-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred and her brother, Carl Lee Colwell. Graveside services will be held in Tuscola, Illinois on March 22nd.
