Estelle Martin, 96, of Huntley, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025. She was born during the Great Depression on December 30, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Christine (Magoulis) Vlahogeorge. She married Glenn Robert Martin in Chicago on June 7, 1953. He preceded her in death.
Estelle spent her whole life in Illinois, and settled in the Crystal Lake/Huntley area for more than twenty years. Earlier in life, she and Glenn co-owned Estelle’s Lounge, a restaurant named for her. She was a dedicated member of her community, and volunteered as an usher for the Raue Arts Center, at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, and with the Crystal Lake and Huntley Park Districts. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to numerous clubs in the Del Webb community. Up until the very end, she kept up with an active lifestyle, and made sure to have her schedule filled. She was a talented cook (which she learned from her parents in the restaurant industry), and loved the color yellow. True to her Greek roots, Estelle was headstrong and self-assured. Above all, she treasured being a homemaker and spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Pamela (Rick) Swan, and Paul (the late Laureen) Martin; a sister, Jean Steffens; her granddaughters, Meagan Martin and Haley Martin; her step-granddaughter, Jennifer (Matthew) Workinger; and her nieces and nephews, Amanda Provenzano, Adam (Samantha) Provenzano, Kris Byrne and grand nieces and nephew Sierra Provenzano, Dylan Provenzano, and Marley Provenzano.
In addition to her husband and parents, Estelle was preceded in death by her brother, Theodore Vlahogeorge, and a sister, Virginia Hoppe.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 3pm until time of prayer services at 6pm, at DeFiore Funeral Home – 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, Illinois 60142. Memorial donations are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
