Sigrid Karin Stybr 83, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on November 15, 2024, with family by her side.
Sigrid was born on April 6, 1941, in Berlin Germany to Ernst P. Laug and Edith M. (Krause) Laug. The Laug family moved to Chicago in 1952, eventually settling in Park Ridge, Illinois, where Sigrid was a graduate of Maine East High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University in 1964. Sigrid taught high school German for one year before moving to Holland and France for several years. Upon her return to the United States, she lived in Schaumburg, Illinois, where she worked as a Systems Analyst at Siemens and ARCO. Eventually, she settled in West Dundee, Illinois, and married Gary McCord, who preceded her in death. Sigrid moved to Heritage Woods of Huntley in 2021, where she was known as “Karen” and participated in Jeopardy whenever possible. Sigrid was a history buff who loved to travel and was an avid reader. She was witty, caring, and a tremendous listener to the very end.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sigrid was preceded in death by her sister, Gudrun Schreiner.
She is survived by her nephews & niece; Christopher Schreiner (Kelly Kramer) of Richmond, Virginia, Michael (Pamela) Schreiner of Phoenix, Arizona, Jacqueline (Jeffery) Lemke of Huntley, Illinois; Great nephews and nieces; Jessica, Justin, Matthew, Rowan, McKenna, Maison, and Madeline; Great-great nephew and niece; Charlotte & Cameron.
Visitation will be held on Saturday April 5th, 2025, at 10am at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Gilberts, 18N377 Galligan Rd, West Dundee, IL 60118 until the time of service at 11am. Burial will be private.
