Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norman James Moret, who left us on April 25, 2025 at the age of 77. Norm was a beloved member of the community as well as a loving father, grandfather and husband.
Born on November 14th,1947, Norm grew up in Morrison Illinois and attended Morrison High School, Class of 1965. He served in the US Army from 1966-1968 and served in Vietnam 1967-1968 in the 20th Engineer Brigade as a Combat Engineer. He attended Northern Illinois University where he was the Vice President for the Northern Illinois Veterans Club.
Norm started his work history as a Packaging Engineer for Anaconda Wire and Cable. After receiving his certificate as a Certified Kitchen Designer, he dedicated his professional life to designing kitchens. He made significant contributions as branch manager of Kitchen Distributors of America and in his work with Grabel Custom Cabinets. He was a proud member of the Fox Valley Builders Association, and his kitchen designs were featured in “Better Homes and Gardens” and “House Beautiful Dream Kitchens”.
In his spare time, Norm enjoyed golf, scuba diving, volunteering with the Big Brother Association, and he earned his purple belt in Taekwondo. He and his wife Denise shared a love for travel and found joy in peaceful walks with their beloved dog Rocky.
A visitation will be on Wednesday from 9am until the memorial Wednesday, April 30, 2025 10:30am both at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church-10805 Main Street, Huntley, IL to be followed by a private graveside military service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Friends and family are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation at www.garysinisefoundation.org PO Box 40726, Nashville, TN 37204. The foundation supports disabled veterans, a cause that was close to Norm’s heart.
Norm is survived by his wife Denise Moret, his daughters: Stacey Moret (Lance Christian), Tiffany Moret, Nicole (Adam) Schumacher, and Alysia (Jeff) Schmerbach; son Eric (Star) Poole; grandchildren: Jacobe (Gabrielle) Schmerbach, Lukes Schmerbach, Isabella Schmerbach, Dylan Schumacher, Pepper Poole, Birdy Poole & Liam Alleman; Sister Dawn (Harvey) Arians; brother & sisters in-law: Fritz & Laurie Oppenlander, Jim & Suzanne Seibert, Wm. & Julie Donohue, his loving companion Rocky and several nieces and nephews.
Norm was preceded in death by his father Dr. James Moret, his mother Irene Dyke, sisters Karen Hook and Sandra Behrens and nieces Katie Zuidema and Angie Schubert.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and medical team that took such great care of Norm over the years. With a special thank you to Dr. Christopher George and the staff at the Delnor and Oakbrook Cancer Centers.

I am so sorry for your loss! Norm and I worked together at Svendson & Associates. He brought such sunshine to our office, and his incredible sense of humor always had us laughing. I was inspired by his positive outlook on life! One man can make a difference.
