Obituary

William “Ted” Urban, 62, of Lake in the Hills, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025.

He was born on August 3, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois to Tadeusz “Ted” and Stanislawa “Stella” (Lenart) Urban. He had an outgoing personality that was unmatched, and made friends everywhere he went. After retiring from Algonquin Public Works, Ted began working at Meijer, where he continued to make it his mission to befriend as many people as possible. His kindness knew no bounds, and he did everything in his power to help whoever he could. Whether it was buying toys throughout the year to donate to Toys for Tots at Christmas or handing out snacks and water to the groundskeepers at his apartment complex. In his spare time, Ted enjoyed collecting coins, sports memorabilia, and cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams (which was all of them). He had a heart of gold, and leaves a legacy of love behind for his friends and family.

He is survived by two of his siblings, Ed (Diane) Urban, and Christine (Mike) Curry; his niece, Christina Curry; his great-nephews, Jayden and Camden DePena; and a special friend, Karen Roper, who supported him throughout his battle with mantle-cell lymphoma; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a brother, John Urban.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, from 4pm-7pm, with a prayer service at 6:30pm, at DeFiore Funeral Home – 10763 Dundee Rd. Huntley, Illinois 60142. Dear Urban family, Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Teddy. He was truly a wonderful human being, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him. From the very beginning Teddy left a lasting impression- gifting my son his first dollar and coins at birth (we still have them) and always inviting me as his “friend “ date to several Christmas parties at his Wheaton moving Co. side job. We shared years worth of breaks together during his time at Public works, where we had countless meaningful conversations full of laughter, honesty, and connection. Even after Teddy left PW, he never stopped reaching out. He’d call just to chat, whether he was having a good day or a tough one:( that’s who he was-always thoughtful, always sincere. We laughed together, cried together, and I’ll forever cherish those moments of friendship with him. He spoke about his family with deep love and gratitude for them. Especially Ed, who was caring for him so selflessly during his cancer treatments, and the warm dinners he enjoyed at his sisters in Belvidere. His heart was truly one of gold, and his presence in this world is irreplaceable. He loved you guys so very much. While I mourn his tremendous loss with you, I find comfort in knowing he’ll not have any more suffering. I will always hold his memory close, and am forever grateful for the bond that we shared. With love and sympathy~ Amanda ❤️
