Annette K. Goode age 79 of Lebanon, TN, formally of Huntley, IL died very peacefully on the morning of July 8 with her husband, sons Dave and Andy and daughter-in-law Tina at her bedside.
Annette was a real Chicago girl. She grew up in the Harlem-Foster neighborhood. She attended St. Monica Elementary School, Resurrection College Prep High School and Mundelein College where she graduated in 1968 with a degree in History and her Teacher’s Certification.
She began her teaching career at Resurrection in the Fall of 1968 as a history teacher. During her 43 years at Resurrection, she progressed from teacher to College Counselor to Guidance Department Chairperson.
Annette was a true believer in Catholic education, and more specifically, the education of young Catholic ladies as both Resurrection and Mundelein College were schools for women only. Several years after she retired from Resurrection, she was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in recognition of her lengthy career and her strong belief in the value of single gender Catholic schools.
After retirement Annette and her husband, David, made travel their hobby. She was on her third passport. Photos show a collection of country visits that included England, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Greece, Bermuda, Bahamas, Jamaica and Mexico. Her favorite foreign cities included London, Barcelona, Venice, Vienna, Rome/Vatican and Budapest.
Domestic travels took them to the Presidential Libraries of Ford, Bush #41 and Bush #43. Her wish to visit the JFK library in Boston went unfulfilled. Trips to Florida always included the Kennedy Space Center. The Alamo in San Antonio was a must do after the Bush’s libraries. The Napa Valley Railroad luncheon was a big hit. Whale watching in the Gulf of California off Cabo San Lucas was better than one could imagine. The Volcanos National Park in Hawaii, toes in the sands of Waikiki Beach and the solemn visit to Pearl Harbor were without compare.
Arriving home was the best part of any of the trips taken. Huntley, Illinois was home for 18 of the last 20 years. Many good times and friends were there. She moved to Lebanon, Tennessee in 2023 to be closer to family members just in case help with daily living was needed.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Ann Kukla. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, David Goode, her sons, David (Tina Schlosser) Goode and Andrew (Kathy) Goode, and her beloved grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ann, Aleksander, Jonathan, Oscar, and Hope Goode. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth (Jean) Kukla and her sister, Charlene (Bobby) Ferguson.
Services will be held on Sunday, July 27th with visitation from 4PM to 7PM at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Rd in Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, July 28th at 10AM at St. Mary Church, 10307 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, IL. Intermit will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
