Dennis John Lorenz, Sr.
June 29, 1946 – October 18, 2025
Dennis John Lorenz, Sr., 79, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025. Dennis was born on June 29, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John “Jack” and Jean Lorenz. Dennis married the love of his life, Sharon Kohl, 60 years ago on February 13, 1965, and together they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories.
Throughout his life, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children. He was a mold maker by trade. Dennis would spend his evenings and weekends often serving as a coach, Cub master, and avid supporter of his children’s activities. His passion for family extended to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren where he found great joy in cheering them on as they pursued their own passions.
Dennis had many hobbies that he enjoyed throughout his life, including fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards, boating and gardening. He enjoyed living in Sun City in his retirement. He was active in the Anglers Club, the Woodchucks and the Sun City Softball Club. He was a true gentleman always holding the door open and welcoming everyone into his home with a warm, positive spirit. He appreciated being around family, friends and neighbors to share a laugh, tell a story or to just sit back and listen. A true family man, he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Lorenz; their children, Dennis (Denise) Lorenz, Jr. and Jennifer (Jim) Christensen; their grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) Novack, Nicolette (Jake) Deckert, Dominic (Samantha) Lorenz, Vanessa Christensen, Elizabeth Christensen, Natalie Christensen, Leeah Lorenz, and Marissa Christensen; their great-grandchildren, Aiden, Liam, Aria, Bryce, Brynlee, Gianina, Beckham, and Benny. Dennis is also survived by his brother, Jack (Linda) Lorenz, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Lorenz, his parents, his in-laws, Don & Rose Kohl, his sister, Cheryl Wojtach, and brothers-in-law Bob Wojtach and Don Kohl, Jr.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a service at 7:30 PM, at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in Dennis’ memory.
