Obituary

Fred McCally passed away on November 16, 2025, in Cary, surrounded by his family. He was born May 1, 1939, in Lansing, Michigan, to Harold and Hazel McCally. Fred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beth (Schafer); daughters Debbie (John) Mink and Kay (Dave) DiVerde; grandchildren, Kevin (Kim) DiVerde, Alex (Allison) DiVerde, Megan (Chris) Kopan and Kelly (Danny) Quaney; great grandson Alfred (his namesake); cousins, nephews and a niece, and brother-and sister-in-laws and many special friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna.
Fred retired from UNO-VEN after 33 years of service. He and Beth enjoyed much of their retirement with family and friends at Bailey Lake in Clare, MI, which was always a special place for him. He often referred to Bailey Lake as God's Country.
Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 23, 2025 2-5pm at DeFiore Funeral Home-10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am on Monday, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church-451 W. Terra Cotta, Crystal Lake, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to a favorite charity of one's choice.

I am so very sorry to hear of Fred's passing. He was the kindest, sweetest man. I always enjoyed seeing Fred and all of his family at Hufnagel gatherings. I'm thinking of you all and sending a big hug.
