Obituary

Eugene Frederick Bolliger, age 90 of 12710 Rock Creek Circle, Huntley, Illinois passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2013. He had been in declining health for the past year.

Eugene was born September 19, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to Eugene Hans and Julia Frederick (Larsen) Bolliger. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1946. He married Lois Ann Doan, December 16th, 1946 in Trenton, Michigan.

He did his medical residency at Grace Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan and Okinawa from September 1950 to June 1951. He continued his Army duty at Ft. Lewis, Washington; Munchweiler, Germany; Pirmasson, Germany and Wurzburg, Germany. He achieved the rank of major. Also during this time he became Board Certified in general surgery and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

After completion of his military service, Eugene entered private practice as an attending surgeon at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He then moved to Ellendale, North Dakota where he was chief surgeon at Dickey County Memorial Hospital from 1958 to 1982. While he was in North Dakota he became an avid pilot. In 1982 he became a surgeon at SHARE HMO, Minneapolis, Minnesota until 1987. He was chief of surgery at MidDakota Hospital of Chamberlain, South Dakota from 1988 to 1991. He was chief of surgery at Gregory South Dakota Community Hospital from 1991 to 1994.

Upon retirement in 1994, he traveled extensively and then moved to Sun City, Huntley, Illinois in 1999 It was there that he pursued his life-long love of music. He played the piano, clarinet, saxophone and sang in various musical groups. He also enjoyed woodworking and painting. He was an active member and elder of Trinity Lutheran Church, Huntley, Illinois.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years and children Mark of Huntley, Illinois, Glen (Linda) of Andover, Massachusetts, Cynthia of La Crosse, Wisconsin and five grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Leslie, James Jr. and Julia.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Parkinson Disease Foundation.

A visiting time will be from 11:00 am until the 12:00 Noon Memorial Service on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at DeFiore Jorgensen Funeral Home -10763 Dundee Road-Huntley.

We send you our warm thoughts and sympathy. I remember clinic visits with Doctor Bolliger, a sons birth he facilitated, a surgery he did for Jim. Cyndi, I think of a long ago French class, and I visualize Lois leading Dacotah Club, which is still going strong.
