Edward L. Polanek, 73 of Richmond, Illinois passed away on Thursday morning, December 26, 2013 following a short illness.
He was a devoted husband of 53 years to his childhood sweetheart, Donna (Speer). Loving father of Victoria Drendel and her husband James of Crystal Lake; Daniel Polanek of Milford, MA; Beth Hertrich and her husband James of Arlington Heights; Tina Polanek of Harvard; and Timothy Polanek and his wife Rosario of Spring Grove. Ed is survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer, Sean, Molly, Abby, Emalie, Danny, Jaclyn, Zackary, Joshua, Alessia and Melissa and his great-granddaughter, Sofia. Ed is also survived by his brother Richard Polanek and his wife Sigrid of Elmwood Park.
Ed graduated from St. Mels High School and attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago. Ed and Donna first made their home in Chicago; in the late 70’s and early 1980’s they moved to Bull Valley and owned and operated High View Ranch. For the last twenty nine years Ed and Donna have made their home in Richmond, IL.
Ed was an entrepreneur in the electronics and security field having owned URL, VCS and Nitek International. In later years he was very involved in family businesses including Groundscape Concepts Inc. and Classic Car Garage. He was an avid parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in Spring Grove. Ed had a deep sense of family and faith in the Lord. Those that loved him will miss him dearly. Dad we will always remember you.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2118 Main Street, Spring Grove. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Home https://www.mercyhome.org/donate.
