Miriam Mona Ludwig

Obituary

Miriam Mona (Henning) Ludwig, 93, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. She was born in Holyrood, Kansas on April 12, 1932, the sixth of seven children of the Rev. Otto and Hilda (Knocke) Henning.
After graduating from St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas with a teaching degree, she began teaching elementary school in St. Louis, Missouri.
She and Richard Ludwig were married on June 12, 1955 with both their fathers, the Rev. Otto Henning and the Rev. Paul Ludwig Sr. officiating the ceremony. Following Richard’s ordination from the Lutheran seminary in St. Louis, they moved to Uvalde, Texas where Richard began his ministry. They also lived in Decatur, Indiana where Miriam volunteered with the Headstart program and taught preschool and in Gaithersburg, Maryland where she was a daycare teacher before retiring to The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida. They moved to Algonquin, Illinois over eight years ago to be near two of their children.
Miriam loved to sing and was a member of many choirs. She felt one of her greatest accomplishments was nurturing children as a mother and teacher. She took her role as the pastor’s wife seriously and was very involved in all the churches in which her husband served.
In addition to her parents, her six siblings precede her in death. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, the Rev. Richard Ludwig; her children, Denise Fuelling (Terry), Douglas Ludwig (Denise), Janice Smith (Gary) and Jeffrey Ludwig; her grandchildren, Kristin Vess (Aaron), Aaron Smith, Kelly Baxter (Chris), Michael Fuelling (Sara) and Sean Smith (Mary); and her great-grandchildren, Matthew Baxter, Rinnah Vess, Anabelle Smith, Zachary Baxter, Lockelan Vess and AJ Fuelling.
A memorial service is planned for Monday, February 16 at 11:00am at Crosspoint Lutheran Church, 8505 Redtail Drive, Lakewood, IL. Visitation begins at 10:00am.
