Douglas J. Grossman, age 83, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Douglas was born on July 23, 1942, the son of Leonard and Virginia (Miller) Grossman. On August 3, 1963, he married the love of his life, Eleanore Ann Machalski, beginning a marriage filled with love, devotion, and family.
So many of Doug’s gifts and passions were expressed through his hands. He began his career as a tool and die maker and worked his way up to become a trusted Vice President, admired by colleagues and by the many young people he mentored. A talented musician, he played lead guitar in several bands, including The Gaslight Express, and shared his love of music by giving guitar lessons in his spare time. He loved a good book, an action packed movie, and most of all, any cookie within reach. Above everything else, Doug gave himself wholeheartedly to his family.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanore Grossman; his children, John (Laureen) Grossman, Carol (Daniel) Precour, and Sherrie (Curt) Reilly; his eleven grandchildren, Amy (Ben), Jacob (Rebecca), Stephan (Suzie), Joseph (Jeff), Annie (Dain), Christina (Drew), Matthew, James, Patrick, Justin, and Joey; and his seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, James (Marilyn) Grossman, Richard (Lynn) Grossman, and Mary (Darrell)McCaslin as well as his sister-in-law, Cecelia Grossman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Grossman.
