Ronald N. Girard, 79, of Huntley, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ronald was born on December 19, 1946, in Chicago, the son of William and Eva (Johnston) Girard. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972, earning numerous medals and accolades in recognition of his outstanding service.
On June 22, 1974, Ronald married the love of his life, Kathleen A. Pedjas. Following his military service, he worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 134, a career he took great pride in.
Ron was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. He worked tirelessly to provide for them, and spending time together was his greatest joy. He and Kathleen loved traveling, cruising, and spending winters in Florida. Ron also had a passion for gardening—every flower was meticulously cared for, and he was often lovingly teased for watering even his driveway in his dedication to keeping everything green and beautiful.
Ron was a loving husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A second visitation will take place on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Military honors will be accorded at the church following Mass.
Ron is survived by his wife, Kathleen Girard; his daughters, Suzanne (Christopher) Teal and Juliette Riebock; his grandchildren, Brock, Brayden, Izabella, Aiden, and Emma; and his sister, Judy (Mike) Murray and by many nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, William.
