
Thomas Whittam Hogarth, 88, of Lake in the Hills, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Thomas was born on December 19, 1937, the son of Frederick and Edna (Petraska) Hogarth. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On June 16, 1962, he married the love of his life, Joan M. Carlson, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned more than six decades.
Tom was known for his infectious laugh and keen sense of humor. He was athletic in his younger years and remained deeply family-oriented throughout his life. He treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, always offering encouragement, laughter, and unwavering support.
An avid history buff, Tom enjoyed learning and sharing stories of the past. He was also a devoted Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan, rarely missing a game and celebrating their victories with enthusiasm. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Hogarth; his children, Jeffrey (Denise) Hogarth, Thomas (Joann) Hogarth, and Suzanne (Denis) Adams; and his six cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Alexis, Tara, Liam, and Thomas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Rodger (Maggie) Chapman and nephews Adam (Becky) Chapman and Erick Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m., all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 S. Pathway, Crystal Lake.
