Mary N. Skoufes, 70, of Marengo, passed away peacefully at her home on February 21, 2026.
Born on June 9, 1955, Mary was the beloved daughter of Nickolas and Katherine (Fraser) Skoufes. Raised on the family farm, Mary developed a lifelong love of horses at an early age. She became an accomplished and avid horse showmanship in hand, earning many trophies and ribbons throughout the years with many of her horses. Her current horse, Sam, was her pride and joy and truly her entire world.
Mary loved all things western and often dreamed of living out West, especially in Jackson, Wyoming. She carried that western spirit with her always — independent, strong, and full of heart.
Above all, Mary was a loving daughter, sister, and aunt. She cherished her family deeply and will be remembered for her warm heart and steadfast devotion. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Kathy (Gary) Heidt, Jim (Anne) Skoufes, and Anne Angelopoulous; her nieces and nephews, Jesse (Vickie), Jamie (Shannon), Joe (Jacky), Jonathan, Steven, Daniel (Jessica), Christina (Jonathan), and Katie (Luke); and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Grace, Faith, Austin, Ethan, Dylan, Xayden and Jack. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. Burial will take place at Ridgewood Cemetery.
