
Edith L. Mathis, a devoted wife, loving mother, and true friend, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, March 5, 2026, in Huntley, Illinois. She was born on June 26, 1947 in Chicago to Frederick T. Bazeley and Arloene A. (Bloom) Bazeley, both of whom preceded her in death.
On April 18, 1964, in South Bend, Indiana, Edith married Michael E. Mathis. They shared a happy marriage of 55 years until his passing. Edith is survived by her two sons, Brian (Diane) Mathis, and Bradley Mathis; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother Frederick T. (Paula) Bazeley Jr.
A lifelong resident of South Bend until moving to Illinois to be close to family, Edith worked nearly 40 years as a Realtor. She was deeply involved in her community, volunteering with local schools, leading Bible study groups, and was an avid fan of the University of Notre Dame football.
Funeral services for Edith will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Springbrook Community Church - 10115 West Algonquin Road, Huntley, IL 60142. Friends may visit with the family from 1:30–3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the church prior to the service. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026 at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park - 375 W Cleveland Rd, Granger, IN 46530.

Edith was a wonderful Christian. She welcomed me into her home for Bible Study and fellowship. Praying for her family for comfort and peace.
Edi was a sweet lady who had bible study in her home. She was an amazing photographer and artist. Prayers for her family. ❤️
