
Paul John Wendel Jr., age 93 of Algonquin Illinois passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, at Northwestern Hospital in Huntley.
Paul was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 as an Airman Apprentice before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served another two years from 1954-1956. Paul was known for his unwavering kindness to everyone around him, extreme humbleness and quiet strength, even in pain and suffering. Paul delighted in his independence and spending time with his great grandchildren.
In 1960, Paul met Augusta D. Mueller in Carpentersville Illinois and began a loving partnership of over 60 years. Together they raised two children: Kenneth E. Mueller and Bradley V. Mueller.
Paul was preceded in death by Paul John Wendel Sr. (father), Margaret Jane (Brunk) Wendel (mother), Augusta D. Mueller (spouse), and Kenneth E. Mueller (stepson). He is survived by his sister, Ann Jones and her husband Chester Jones - along with their two children (Paul’s niece and nephew) Kimberly Ann (Jones) Bradshaw and Wendel Lee Jones, Pamela J. Mueller (daughter-in-law), Bradley V. Mueller (stepson), his grandchildren Tiffany (Derek) DePaul, Amanda Mueller, and Johnathan Mueller, great-grandchildren Kennedy and Charlotte DePaul, and many beloved friends and extended family.
A visitation will be held from 4-6:00pm on Friday, March 13th at DeFiore Funeral Home (10763 Dundee Road, Huntley IL 60142). A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday March 14th at St. Thomas the Apostle Oak Street Church (451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014). A burial will follow at Dundee Township East Cemetery in East Dundee, Illinois.
