Obituary

Robert “Tommy” Askren, 58, died peacefully on February 18, 2026.

Tommy was born January 18, 1968, in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Karl and Ellen (Garvan) Askren. He worked as a truck driver and took great pride in his work. Tommy had a lifelong passion for cars. From driving them to fixing them, he found great joy in being a true car enthusiast.

A simple man at heart, Tommy loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed boating and visiting the Northwoods of Wisconsin, where he appreciated the quiet beauty of nature. He also shared a special bond with his faithful companion, Bullet. Tommy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Ellen Askren; his stepmother, Linda Askren; former wife and best friend, Lisa Valentine , his sister, Elise Larsen,. He is also survived by his step-siblings, Jennifer Montoya, Dawna Rybialek, and Christopher Bauer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Karl Askren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a service at 2:00 p.m., all at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tommy's name to the Almost Home Foundation in Schaumburg.

So sorry for the loss of Tommy. I couldn't have asked for better neighbors, living next to animal lovers such as yourselves. It was nice knowing friends were just a door knock away.

He was a great friend I have so many memories with him and his mom and Lisa we all miss him
