Ruth M. Dettman, 95 of Sun City, Huntley, passed away on Sunday morning, January 12, 2014 at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock following a lengthy illness.
She was born April 18, 1918 in Lombard, Illinois, the daughter of Henry D. and Alma (Exnar) Merz. She was united in marriage to Irving H. Dettman on June 12, 1943. She had worked as a machinist most of her life. She especially enjoyed her beloved cat, Annie, making hand sewn quilts for her family and reading. She loved her Lord Jesus and attending services at Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her sister, Grace (Allan) Danielson of Huntley, her Goddaughter, Cynthia McAllister, Jo Anne Brettschender and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving, her brother, Henry Merz and her sisters, Leona Stene, Gladys Freier, Mildred Leach & Irene Duddridge.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 11008 N. Church Street in Huntley. Private burial will be in Dundee Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Huntley Fire Protection District.
