Kenneth “Jimmy” James Bending

Obituary

Kenneth “Jimmy” James Bending, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026. He was born on July 9, 1940, in Des Plaines, Illinois, to Kenneth W. and Constance S. (Matecun) Bending.

Jimmy married Jennifer Pei Xiang Ye on August 26, 1992. Together, they shared a love of travel, journeying to China ten times. On each trip, Jimmy and Jennifer brought along a jumbo-sized suitcase filled with candy to share with local children—much to Jimmy’s delight, the suitcase would be emptied in moments.

From a young age, Jimmy developed a passion for the outdoors, especially pheasant hunting and fishing. He particularly enjoyed fishing trips throughout the US / Canada and was proud of catching a "50 pound" Chinook salmon, a story he loved to tell. Jimmy often spent his time fishing alongside his children and grandchildren, as nothing mattered more to him than family. Known for his happiness and gift for storytelling, Jimmy brought joy and laughter wherever he was. He was also a proud union carpenter, dedicating many years to his trade.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Pei Bending; his sons, Scott (Jen) Bending and Adam Bending; his stepson, Kevin (Jessica) Qui; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah and Madelyn Bending, and David and Rachel Qui. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald Bending (Antoinette), Richard (Marcia) Bending, Joan (William) Burtis, and Allen (Christine) Bending, as well as his sister-in-law, Chris Bending; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Betty Bending.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held later this summer (date to be determined).
