Carlos Jose Alicea Morales, 69, of Huntley, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and in his wife's arms.
Carlos was born on September 1, 1956, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, to Carmen P. Morales and Manuel Alicea. He was raised in Puerto Rico by his beloved grandmother, Luz Esther Delgado Morales, before moving to Illinois at the age of 17. Although he made Illinois his home, Puerto Rico always held a special place in his heart and remained his true home. He returned to the island often to visit family and friends. Carlos was deeply loved by many, both in Illinois and Puerto Rico, and he took great pride in his Puerto Rican heritage. He enjoyed salsa music, playing the cuatro, dominoes, and sharing his culture and traditions with his family.
Carlos' greatest pride and joy was his family, whom he cherished above all else. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Carmen J. Alicea; a proud father to his children, Carlos Alicea, Jose (Ana) Alicea, Evelyn (Robert) Stratton, Karla (Josh) Biga, Joshua (Alma) Alicea, Noely (Juan) Alicea-Muñoz; a loving grandfather to Destiny (Armando) Ugalde, Naomi, Ana, and Jose Alicea; Natalie, Madisyn, and Robert Stratton; Maximus, Solomon, and Lilyana Biga; Sebastian and Christian Alicea; and Mia and Adryan Carlos Muñoz; a cherished great-grandfather to Matteo Rossiano, Arabella and Rosalinda Ugalde.
Carlos loved his family unconditionally and dedicated his life to their happiness and well-being. His unwavering love, guidance, and generosity will remain a lasting legacy for generations to come.
Carlos was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose Ramon Morales and Luz Esther Delgado; his parents, Carmen P. Morales and Manuel Alicea; and his brother, Manuel Angel Alicea.
Carlos never hesitated to help others and was known for his contagious smile and infectious laugh. He was a kind, genuine, and compassionate man whose warmth touched the lives of everyone he met. Whether it was family, friends, neighbors, or a stranger in need, Carlos was always willing to lend a helping hand without ever expecting anything in return.
Carlos had a passion for working on cars and spent countless hours in his garage taking on projects he truly enjoyed. He was also a proud and devoted Jeep Wrangler enthusiast, best known for his meticulously maintained white 1998 Jeep Sahara. The Jeep became a symbol of who he was—from picking up his grandchildren from school, to weekend drives with his wife to Lake Geneva to enjoy the summer breeze, to rescuing neighbors whose vehicles were stuck in the snow during winter storms. During the holidays, he transformed it into a festive display by decorating it with hundreds of Christmas lights, bringing joy to everyone who saw it.
In the fall of 2022, Carlos was diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer and given a life expectancy of six months. Determined to fight, he underwent numerous treatments and participated in clinical trials at the University of Chicago. Carlos faced his diagnosis with remarkable courage, strength, and unwavering faith. Through countless treatments, doctor's appointments, and hospitalizations, he never complained. Instead, he continued to fight so he could spend more precious time with the family he loved so deeply.
Carlos was a man of strong faith who welcomed God into his life. On June 30, 2026, God called him home, and his family gained a guardian angel. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his love, generosity, strength, and unwavering kindness will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A visitation celebrating Carlos' life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home and Cremation in Huntley, Illinois, at which time a religious service officiated by Pastor Hector Ramirez will be held.
