Obituary

Kenneth George Dicks, 97, of Huntley, died peacefully on July 1, 2026, with his family by his side.
Kenneth was born on April 4, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Julius and Elizabeth (Szymkowski) Dicks. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. On April 7, 1956, he married the love of his life, Patricia Kalas, and together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage.
Kenneth dedicated more than 20 years of service to the City of Chicago as a Chicago police officer. Faith, family, and friendship were the core values that guided his life every day. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and was devoted to his church and community. Kenneth enjoyed spending time with family, friends, playing bocce ball, playing cards and board games with family and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and well loved by all who knew him. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Patricia Dicks; his children, Alan (Mary) Dicks, David (Sue) Dicks, Pamela (Art) Lutzow, Jackie (Ed) Sypien, Jim (Liz) Dicks, Bob (Ursula) Dicks,Christine (Pete) Maurer, and Joseph (Arlene) Dicks; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Patrick, Richard, and Leonard Dicks; and his sisters, Eleanor and Mildred.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.. Burial will follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery in Niles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, St. Labre Indian School for Children, or the Dominican Sisters of Hope.
