John S. Hoffman, 85 of Huntley, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2014.
John was born July 13, 1928 in Thermopolis, WY to John and Irene Hoffman and grew up in Omaha, NE. John served in the United States Army as a dental lab technician, then attended Creighton University graduating with a degree in Journalism. He then went to work for United Airlines where his love of aviation began. It was at United Airlines that he met Linda, his wife of almost 50 years. He began his airline career in Omaha in Passenger Service and eventually came to Chicago where he worked in Regulations, Industrial Engineering and Customer Services. He retired after 34 years.
John was an active member of Crystal Lake Evangelical Free Church where enjoyed singing in the choir, studying the Bible and serving in a variety of capacities. He was an avid reader and skilled woodworker who built beautiful furniture as well as radio controlled airplanes and boats. Above all he was devoted to his wife and family, and enjoyed being involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.
John is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his children, John (Thea) Hoffman and Julie (Grant) Gabel, his four grandchildren; Corryn (David) Petrovich, Miranda Hoffman, David and Chloe Gabel and by his great granddaughter, Emma Petrovich.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Jean Peterson.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, 1:30pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 pm all at Crystal Lake Evangelical Free Church-575 E. Crystal Lake Rd.
