George J. Sebastian

Obituary

George J. Sebastian, of Sun City, Huntley, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on August 11, 2026 following a lengthy illness.

He was born January 9, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois the son of George and Jane (Cook) Sebastian. Raised and educated in Chicago and Shawano Wisconsin, he served in the United States Army, spending a tour of duty in Korea. He obtained an undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University in 1964 in accounting and economics, and a Master’s Degree in Finance from Northwestern University in 1969. He was a Certified Internal Auditor and was a past President of the Chicago Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. His business career in financial and audit management spanned many years, the majority with FMC Corporation of Chicago.

George was united in marriage to Louise Grimm on May 22, 1965. They made their home in Park Ridge, Illinois where they raised their three children: son, George and daughters, Annamarie and Katherine (Ehlert). He was “Grandpa” to seven grandchildren: Mandy, Jessie, and Luke Ehlert, Aaron and Matthew Sebastian, and
Daniel and Alexander Sebastian. Great-Grandpa to Mason, Noah, Gatlin, Theodore, Olivia, and Gavin.

Louise and George enjoyed traveling and visited a number of countries and took many cruises during their retirement. Moving to Sun City he became active in community activities and served on several committees. He was Chairman of the Association’s Finance Committee and served as a member of the Board of Directors. He had a lifelong interest in photography and was a collector of antique clocks and watches.

He is survived by his wife, Louise of Huntley; his son, George and daughter-in-law Julie, grandchildren, Aaron and Matthew (Chloe), and great-grandsons, Mason, Noah, Gatlin, Theo, Olivia; daughter, AnnaMarie and grandsons Daniel and Alexander; daughter, Katherine (Ehlert) and son-in-law Paul, grandchildren, Mandy (Justin), Jessie (Conor), and Luke (Kate), and great-grandson, Gavin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jane Blodgett.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 2:00pm-5:00pm at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A memorial visitation will occur on
Monday, August 31, from 10:00am-11:00am with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10805 Main Street, Huntley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church.

George was a real asset to the Sun City Huntley Computer Club. I worked with George on several committees at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church. He was always very knowledgeable in many subjects. He will be missed. Rest in Peace, and may God bring comfort to your family.

It’s been a while but I remember George from the computer lab. Pleasant, knowledgeable, interesting. My condolences to all the family.
