Fern Lemae Dahlman

Obituary

Fern Lemae Dahlman nee Mansmith, of Huntley, Illinois, peacefully passed away at home on August 21, 2026, with family by her side, after receiving hospice care. She quietly left this earth and entered into the arms of Jesus, reunited with her beloved husband, Ron.
Fern was born near Braham, Minnesota, on August 13, 1935, to Lee and Clara Mansmith. She met her future husband, Ron, while attending a high school camp, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith and love. While Fern worked for a time as an administrative assistant, her primary focus and joy was serving as a devoted mother and active member of her church. Known for her warmth and open heart, Fern embodied Christian hospitality. She, even up to her final days would always great any visitor with the same inevitable question: " Have you eaten yet?" Sunday afternoons often found her preparing a large meal and eagerly looking to "see who we could invite"—welcoming both new acquaintances and old friends to share in their home. Later in life, she and Ron led small group couples ministries and enjoyed a long retirement filled with trips abroad, frequently shared with longtime friends Tom and Joanne Johnson.
Universally described by all who knew her as sweet, happy, and deeply caring, Fern’s gentle nature was evident to the very end. Even while in hospice care, her selfless spirit shone through as she consistently inquired about the well-being and health of her family members caring for her, putting others first until her final rest.
Fern is survived by her sons: Darrell Dahlman (Carlene), Ken Dahlman (Lori), and Karl Dahlman (Chris); her daughter, Donna Biere (Jim Giese); her 16 grandchildren and their spouses; and her precious great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Dahlman; her parents, Lee and Clara Mansmith; her grandson, Daniel Dahlman; and her daughter-in-law, Connie Simpson.
Fern will be cremated and interred alongside Ron at Grant Cemetery in Ingleside, Illinois. A graveside service to honor her life will be held at a date to be determined in October.
