Shirley M. Joy, 90 years young, of Lake in the Hills passed away peacefully May 6, 2014 with family by her side. She was born in Brainard, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Loretta (Murphy) Sauvageau. She worked at Motorola for 23 years, loved to travel, was an avid bingo player, and was proud of her Irish heritage.
Shirley was a devoted mom, beloved grandma, special great-grandma, loving sister, dear aunt, favorite cousin, and caring friend. She was warm, giving and loyal, a rare soul with a beautiful and tender heart. Her family and her faith were the most important things to her. She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Huntley, a lifelong, devout Catholic who truly lived her faith. Shirley was the proud matriarch of her family, the center of their world. Her unconditional love and strength were an inspiration to all who knew her. She has left a smile imprinted on each of our hearts. It comforts us to know that she is finally home with God, and in the loving arms of her mother.
“Wherever we go, whatever we do, our days will begin and end with you.”
Shirley is survived by her children, Mary (John) Fabing, Kevin (Kathy) Joy, Chris Joy, Debbie (Rich) Nielsen, and Lynne (Wayne) Rott; eleven wonderful grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Ron (Pat) Sauvageau and Jim (Mary) Sauvageau; many adoring nieces and nephews; dear cousins, especially Rita Greer, who was like a sister to her and her best friend; father of her children Ken (Mary) Joy; and numerous loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother Joseph, infant sister Theresa, and infant grandson Korhey.
